More than seven million Americans
currently abuse prescription drugs, according to the
2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service
Administrations' National Survey on Drug Use and
Health. EAch day approximately 2,400 teens use
prescription drugs to get high for the first time,
according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America.
The Town of Emmitsburg, in cooperation with the
Frederick County Health Department, Frederick County
Sheriff's Office and the Federal Drug Enforcement
Agency, is participating in a prescription drug take
back effort. To help provide safe disposal of
unused medicine, the Town of Emmitsburg has installed
a Prescription Drug Disposal Site at the Town Office,
located at 300A South Seton Ave. The drop off
container is located on the 2nd floor at the entrance
to the Town Office. During business hours
residents can safely dispose of their expired and/or
unwanted household medicines and prescription drugs at
this location.
