Town Manager's Report
May 2005

Streets:

  • Staff cleaned East and West Main Streets
  • Staff installed the "Farmers Market" signs
  • Staff has performed repairs to the street lights on East & West Main Street
  • Staff performed a few cold patch paving repairs around Town
  • Staff has installed "speed bumps" on Chesapeake Ave. & North Ave.

Water:

  • Staff has applied copper sulfate to Rainbow Lake to help control the algae
  • Staff has flushed the raw water line from Rainbow lake to the water treatment plant
  • We have let the contract for the connection of Well #4.  We hope to have this well on line within the next 90 days.  This well will add approximately 160 residental water taps or 40,000 gpd of capacity to the System.
  • Samples have been analyzed for Phase II & V metals, along with fluoride and nitrates as required by MDE & EPA and all are well below the maximum allowable levels.
  • Water production and consumption.  We produced and purchased an average of 383,141 gpd.  We consumed an average of 369,549 gpd.
    • The difference is "Backwash Water" ...(3.6%).   We purchased 426,878 gals. of water from MSM this month.
    • 60.0% of this water came from wells (up from 53.5%)
    • 04.3% of this water came from Mt. St. Mary's
    • 35.7% of this water came from Rainbow Lake (down from 42.0%)

Wastewater:

  • We did not have any raw sewerage spills this month
  • Staff has been performing general/seasonal maintenance at the wastewater treatment plant.
  • The "overland flow" treatment system is in use and working well
  • We received about 2.4 inches of precipitation this month
  • Wastewater Treatment:
    • We treat an average of 421,000 gpd (consumed 369,549 gpd) which means that only 13% of the wastewater treated this month was "Wild Water"
    • We did exceed the plants design capacity on 1 days in the month of May; 
      • 5/20 - 1,057,000 gal. Plant daily design capacity is 800,000 gals.
      • 3/27 - 1,255,000 gal.    3/28 - 2,591,000 gal.

Trash:

  • Trash pickup days will be Monday & Thursday for the month of June

Parks:

  • Staff is performing standard spring maintenance - checking all playground equipment, ballfield prep and mowing and trimming
  • Staff has been working on the swimming pool
  • Staff has worked closely with the Little League to prep the "Babe Ruth" field for the basebaLL season

Meetings Attended:

  • To discuss possible new commercial office site
  • The reconstruction of Frailey Rd. - From Main St. to intersection of Mt. View Rd.
  • MDE related to the civil design for the reconstruction of the Town's sanitary sewer main east of Rte. 15
  • To review and discuss the installation of the water pressure control valve vault to be located in the Brookfield Development
  • Progress meetings related to the Mt. View Rd. waterline rehab and the sanitary sewer rehab projects
  • Pre-construction meeting for the Well #4 project
  • To review the future paving of DePaul St. from Federal Ave. to N. Seton Ave.
  • The State of Maryland to investigate existing grant and loan programs the Town may want to participate in or utilize
