Baroque Ensemble to Present Concert
 on January 16th

(12/30) The Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra will present an all-Baroque program on Sunday, January 16, at 4 pm, in the Chapel of the United Lutheran Seminary as part of the Music, Gettysburg! series. A "Baroque Ensemble" consisting of 15 members of the parent organization will feature concertos and a cantata by a group of late Baroque composers including Handel, Bach, Telemann, and Vivaldi. In keeping with seminary policy and CDC guidelines, all members of the audience must be masked.

Peter Sirotin, concert master of the Harrisburg Symphony and co-director Market Square Concert will be joined by Elly Toyoda, visiting professor at the Sunderman Conservatory, and recent graduate Johnny Weizenecker as violin soloists. Other soloists for the concert include Adams County native Diana Flesner, pianist Jocelyn Swigger, and soprano Susan Hochmiller.

While Norman Nunamaker, founder of the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra, will conduct most of the pieces, Ryan Kozak also a Sunderman Conservatory graduate, will be guest conductor for J. S. Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins.

The Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra is a professional ensemble founded in 1997 by Carolyn and Norman Nunamaker. One of its objectives as stated in its original mission statement was to include as many local musicians as members or as soloists as possible, and the membership of the Baroque Ensemble exemplifies this objective. Because of the Covid virus, many concerts were either cancelled or postponed, and the members are so pleased to be able to slowly return to the "concert stage" of the Seminary Chapel. We hope to see all of you at our May, 2022 concert when Felix Hell and Grace Kim will join the orchestra in presenting Saint Saens’ "Organ Symphony" and Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto. For further information about this concert or the orchestra, please call 717-334-5508.
