(1/2) Music Gettysburg! welcomes the Cornell University Glee Club on Friday, January 6, at 7:30 P.M. in the chapel of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg.
The Cornell University Glee Club is Cornell’s oldest student organization, officially beginning as the Orpheus ensemble in the fall of 1868 with little more than a vocal quartet. By the mid 1870’s, stemming from that small quartet, the Cornell University Glee
Club emerged. Hollis Dann became the first official director of the club in 1889 and an expanded domestic tour accompanied by a national reputation was established.
Since the first days of the Orpheus Club, the Cornell University Glee Club has become home to thousands of young aspiring men. Today, under the direction of Professor Scott Tucker, conductor and John Rowehl, assistant conductor, the Glee Club is recognized as
one of the premier collegiate ensembles in America.
Their repertoire includes songs from liturgical settings, folk songs, works of the Renaissance period, traditional songs of Cornell and recent compositions written specifically for the Glee Club.
This ensemble is rich in history and accomplishment, and has brought music to millions in the past several decades. Please come and support this historical ensemble.
