commanding a division of dismounted cavalry; detached from June 24
to July 7, 1864, as Ordnance Officer at Martinsburg, W. Va. ;
detached from July 8 to July 14, 1864, as A. A. A. General to
Colonel Harris, commanding Brigade of Infantry, Department of West
Virginia; detached as Post Adjutant to Colonel Vernon at
Hagerstown, Md., from July 22, to July 29, 1864; captured at
Middletown, Md., July 6, 1864, whilst charging, with a small
detachment, a brigade of Rebel cavalry, in order to gain time and
give the army an opportunity to meet the advancing enemy; escaped
same day; mustered out with regiment, June 28, 1865. |
