Other Activity

  • The Town hosted the last two of four Summer Pool Parties - A children’s party and an additional family party. Attendance averaged about 100 patrons per party and public feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
  • The staff met twice with American Pool Management to discuss plans for closing the pool at season’s end, winterization, pending repair to the kiddie pool , and potential upgrades for the 2006 season. The staff attended a FEMA workshop for Municipal Flood Plain Managers to review Frederick County’s new Flood Insurance Rate Maps, ordinance updates, and new regulatory strategies.
  • The staff completed its biennial review and report to FEMA regarding the Town’s participation in the National Flood Insurance Program. The staff met with representatives of Silver Fancy Farms at their request to discuss their desire to have the Town reconsider annexation of the Silver Fancy property. Harris Smariga has asked to be placed on the September 2005 Planning Commission Agenda.
  • The staff met with representatives of the Maryland Department of Natural resources to complete its biennial review of the Town’s reforestation program, review compliance activities with regard to previous development projects, and consider ordinance amendments.
  • The staff completed and submitted an $ 822,000 Community Development Block Grant proposal to the Maryland Department of Housing, Economic and Community Development Section. The proposed grant is targeted at the retention of Emmitsburg Glass Company and to undertake major sewer repairs in order to eliminate an environmental hazard responsible for a number of Sanitary Sewer Overflows. This represents the culmination of a one year effort on behalf of Mayor Hoover, Mr. Haller, the Planning Staff, MDE and State economic development officials. Initial response to the proposal from state officials has been positive. A copy of the grant application may be viewed at Town Hall during regular business hours.
