Town Manager's Report

April 2010

Streets:

·         Staff has worked with the contractor to install permanent “speed bumps” on Chesapeake Avenue and West North Avenue. 

·         Staff worked with the contractor to repaint the lines and turn arrows on Silo Hill Road.

·         Staff has repaired a number of street lights.

·         Staff made a number of “cold patch” paving repairs around town.

 

Water:

·         Rainbow Lake remains at the spillway level. 

·         The roughing filters are being backwashed twice per day and the DE filters are being done once per week.

·         Staff flushed all water system hydrants this month.

·         Water production and consumption.  We produced and purchased an average of 315,490 gpd.  We consumed an average of 279,487 gpd.

 

 The difference is "Backwash Water" ... (11.4%). We purchased 403,290 gallons of

 water from MSM this month.

o    42.5% of this water came from wells. 

o      4.3% of this water came from Mt. St. Mary's.

o    53.2% of this water came from Rainbow Lake. 

 

Wastewater:

·         The overland and flow treatment system is up and running for the season.

·         Staff has been performing maintenance on the aerators at the sewer plant.

·         We received about 2.7 inches of precipitation this month (the average is 3.8 inches).

 

o    We have a precipitation surplus of 5.9" over the last six months.  The average precipitation for the period from November 1 thru April 30 is 21.5".  We have received 27.4" for that period.

 

·         Wastewater Treatment:

 

o    We treated an average of 388,000 gpd (consumed 279,487 gpd) which means that 28.0% of the wastewater treated this month was "wild water". 

o    We experienced no spills of untreated sewerage during the month of April. 

o    We exceeded the plant's design capacity on one (1) day during the month of April:  4/26 – 1,025,000 GPD

 

           

  Trash: 

·         Trash pickup will remain Mondays for the remainder of month of May, including May 31, 2010 (Memorial Day).

 

Parks:

·         Staff has been mowing, trimming and performing general maintenance in the parks.

·         Staff has repaired a number of bleachers at the ball fields.

·         Staff has been painting the pavilion at the swimming pool.

·         Staff has been performing general seasonal preparation at the swimming pool.
