                                                 Town Manager's Report

                                                     September 2009

Streets:

  • Staff repaired several street lights 

  • Staff cleaned East & West Main Street

  • Staff painted several fire hydrants

  • Staff worked with Frederick County Paving to repave Creekside Drive

Water:

  • Rainbow Lake is mow 15" below the spillway level 

  • The roughing filters are now being backwashed twice per day and the DE filters are being done once per week

  • Staff has added copper sulfate to Rainbow Lake for the last time this year

  • Staff installed a new screen in the valve house at Rainbow Lake

  •  

  • Water production and consumption.  We produced and purchased an average of 343,326 gpd.  We consumed an average of 297,256 gpd 

    • The difference is "Backwash Water" ...(13.4%). We purchased 362,100 gals. of water from MSM this month.

    • 49.1 of this water came from wells 

    •   3.5% of this water came from Mt. St. Mary's

    • 47.4%  of this water came from Rainbow Lake 

Wastewater:

  • The overland and flow treatment system is now up and running 

  • Staff has discontinued discharging to the irrigation system at Mason Dixon Farms for the season

  • We received about 3.9 inches of precipitation this month (the average is 4.2 inches)

    • We have a precipitation surplus of 4.0 over the last six months, the average precipitation for the period from Apr.1 thru Sept.31 is 24.2" and we received 28.2" for that period

  • Wastewater Treatment:

    • We treated an average of 323,000 gpd (consumed 297,256 gpd) which means that 7.9% of the wastewater treated this month was "wild water".  

    • We experienced no spills of untreated sewerage during the month of August

  • We did not exceed the plant's design capacity on any day during the month of Septembe

  Trash: 

  • Trash pickup will remain Mondays for the remainder of Month of October

Parks:

  • Staff winterized the swimming pool

  • Staff installed a new net on the basketball hoop in Community Park, they also replaced some swing seats in Memorial Park

  • Staff performed the monthly maintenance inspection, mowing and trimming

Meetings Attended:

  • 09/01 Meeting with wastewater plant design engineers

  • 09/02 Bid opening Lincoln Ave. water & sewer rehab project

  • 09/04 meeting with the Mayor to review budget matters

  • 09/08 Meeting with resident to discuss parking matters

  • 09/17 Meeting with County Commissioners and Municipal leaders

  • 09/22 Meeting with the Town attorney to discuss and review the Southgate SWM pond and its approval

  • 09/25 Meeting with the Town Clerk and the auditors related to the FY2009 budget review and audit
