                                                 Town Manager's Report

                                                     August 2009

Streets:

  • Staff spent most of the month repairing street lights

  • Staff cleaned East & West Main Street

Water:

  • Rainbow Lake is mow 10" below the spillway level 

  • The roughing filters are now being backwashed twice per day and the DE filters are being done once per week

  • Staff has added sand and anthracite to roughing filter #3

  • We have completed the final hook-up of the generator project at well #3

  •  

  • Water production and consumption.  We produced and purchased an average of 360,048 gpd.  We consumed an average of 313,828 gpd 

    • The difference is "Backwash Water" ...(12.8). We purchased 369,850 gals. of water from MSM this month.

    • 50.2% of this water came from wells 

    •   3.3% of this water came from Mt. St. Mary's

    • 46.5%  of this water came from Rainbow Lake 

Wastewater:

  • The overland and flow treatment system is now up and running for the season

  • Staff has been discharging to the irrigation system at Mason Dixon Farms this month

  • We received about 3.95 inches of precipitation this month (the average is 3.6 inches)

    • We have a precipitation surplus of 2.7 over the last six months, the average precipitation for the period from Mar.1 thru Aug.31 is 23.9" and we received 26.6" for that period

  • Wastewater Treatment:

    • We treated an average of 345,000 gpd (consumed 313,828 gpd) which means that 9.0% of the wastewater treated this month was "wild water".  

    • We experienced no spills of untreated sewerage during the month of August

  • We did exceed the plant's design capacity one day during the month of July 

            08-02-2009   1,076,000 gal.

Trash: 

  • Trash pickup will remain Mondays for the Month of September

Parks:

  • Staff cleaned both the Community and Memorial Park pavilions

  • New door closure equipment was installed on the restroom doors in Community Park

  • Staff performed the monthly maintenance inspection, mowing and trimming

Meetings Attended:

  • 08/07  Meeting with town clerk to review budget status

  • 08/10  Meeting with property owner related to comp plan update

  • 08/18  Meeting with MDE to review and discuss state funding for state mandated   sewer plant upgrade

  • 08/19  Mayor's staff meeting

  • 08/20  Meeting with County Commissioners and Municipal leaders

  • 08/27  Meeting of the Frederick County Chapter of the MML

  • 08/28  Meeting with EBPA to review and discuss grease trap ordinance

  • 08/28  Meeting with representative of the Little League to discuss field maintenance in Memorial Park
