                                                 Town Manager's Report

                                                     April 2009

Streets:

  • Staff installed speed bumps on Chesapeake Ave., El Lincoln Ave, W. North Ave and Timbermill Run

  • Staff worked with the contractor to mill and patch sections of Silo Hill Rd.

  • Staff repaired a number of street lights

  • Staff cleaned East & West Main Street

  • Staff flushed the domestic water delivery system

Water:

  • Rainbow Lake is now full and holding at the spillway level

  • The roughing filters are now being backwashed twice per day and the DE filters are being done once per week

  • The pump in Well No. 2 is down and is being replaced. We are meeting demand just fine without turning up the MSM supply line

  • Staff  has repaired two large water leaks. One at the Emmitsburg (old) car wash and one at the intersection of Hampton Valley & Riffle Road

  •  

  • Water production and consumption.  We produced and purchased an average of 347,604 gpd.  We consumed an average of 302,275 gpd 

    • The difference is "Backwash Water" ...(13.0%).   We purchased 335,916 gals. of water from MSM this month.

    • 48.0% of this water came from wells 

    •   3.4% of this water came from Mt. St. Mary's

    • 48.6%  of this water came from Rainbow Lake 

Wastewater:

  • The overland and flow treatment system is now up and running for the season

  • Transfer pump No. 1 has quid and staff is planning its repair

  • We received about 4.6 inches of precipitation this month (the average is 3.8 inches)

    • We have a precipitation deficit of 3.0" (down from 3.4" last month) over the last six months, the average precipitation for the period from Nov. 1 thru April 30 is 21.5" and we received 18.5" for that period

  • Wastewater Treatment:

    • We treated an average of 668,000 gpd (consumed 301,275 gpd) which means that 54.7% of the wastewater treated this month was "wild water".  

    • We experienced no spills of untreated sewerage during the month of April

  • We exceeded the plant's design capacity six days in the month of April

Trash: 

  • Trash pickup will remain Monday and Thursday for the Month of May, 2009 with the exception of Monday, May 25, 2009

Parks:

  • Staff turned the water on and started preseason prep at the swimming pool

  • Staff opened the bathrooms in Memorial and Community parks for the season

  • The roofs on the small pavilions in Memorial park were replaced

  • Staff planted six more trees in Community park near the play ground area

  • Staff turned the water on and opened the Little League Concession stand for the season
