Town Manager's Report
August 2008

Streets:

  • Staff  maintained flower hanging pots on the square

  • Staff has repaired a number of street lights

  • Staff worked with Frederick County Paving to resurface the streets in Emmit Gardens

  • Staff worked with S&W Construction to repair the sidewalk at 130 West Main St.

  • Staff cleaned East & West Main Streets

Water:

  • Rainbow Lake is now about 19" below the spillway (down from 8" last month) and all wells are starting to slowly drop

  • The roughing filters are now being backwashed twice per day and the DE filters are being done once per week

  • A new transducer has been installed in Tank No. 1.  We have been running on Tank #2 with tank #1 controlling flows the plant has been operating much smoother

    Water production and consumption.  We produced and purchased an average of 363,114 gpd.  We consumed an average of 301,252 gpd   

    • The difference is "Backwash Water" ...(17.0%).   We purchased 735,300 gals. of water from MSM this month.

    • 45.2% of this water came from wells 

    •   6.5% of this water came from Mt. St. Mary's

    • 48.3%  of this water came from Rainbow Lake 

Wastewater:

  • Staff is continuing to operate the overland flow treatment system

  • We received about 2.0 inches of precipitation this month (the average is 3.6 inches)

    • We have a surplus of 3.8" of  precipitation over the last six months.  The average precipitation for the period from Mar 1 thru Aug. 31 is 23.9" and we have received 27.7" for that period. 

  • Wastewater Treatment:

    • We treated an average of 257,000 gpd (consumed 301,252 gpd) which means that 0.0% of the wastewater treated this month was "wild water".  

    • We experienced no spill of untreated sewerage during the month of August       

  • We did not exceed the plant's design capacity during the month of August

Trash: 

  • Trash pickup will remain Monday and Thursday for the Month of September, 2008, 

Parks:

  • Staff made all standard checks and emptied trash cans

  • Staff installed a new grill at Silo Hill Park

  • Staff installed ballfield mix on Babe Ruth Field

  • Staff dug out a dead tree in Memorial Park and replaced it with a new one ...(one of Ms. Boyles' trees)

  • Staff installed new information boards in Community and Memorial Parks

  • Staff performed standard mowing and trimming

  • 08/08 Meeting with consultants and engineers related to proposed Emmit Gardens water treatment plant
