Town Manager's Report
August  2007

Streets:

  • Staff  installed the Mount St. Mary's  bicentennial banners

  • Staff has repaired a number of street lights 

  • Staff applied weed control on the sidewalks of Main Street and Seton Ave.

  • Staff trimmed a number of trees on several streets

  • Staff supervised the installation of permanent "speed bumps" on Lincoln Avenue and South School Lane

Water:

  • Rainbow Lake is now 1.0 feet below the spillway, and our five wells have dropped a total of fifty (50) feet (an average of ten (10) feet each) since July 23, 2007 until September 10, 2007

  • The roughing filters are now being backwashed three times per day and the DE filters are being done once per week

  • The recently instituted water use restrictions are having mixed results

  •  

  • Water production and consumption.  We produced and purchased an average of 380,640 gpd.  We consumed an average of 325,421 gpd  

    • The difference is "Backwash Water" ...(14.5%).   We purchased 908,500 gals. of water from MSM this month.

    • 44.5%      of this water came from wells 

    •   7.7%      of this water came from Mt. St. Mary's

    • 47.8%      of this water came from Rainbow Lake 

Wastewater:

  • Staff is continuing to paint the wastewater treatment plant

  • We received about 4.6 inches of precipitation this month (the average is 3.6 inches)

    • We have a deficit of 7.3" of  precipitation over the last six months.  The average precipitation for the period from March 1 thru  August 30 is 23.9" and we have received 16.6" for that period. 

  • Wastewater Treatment:

    • We treated an average of 373,000 gpd (consumed 325,640 gpd) which means that 0.0% of the wastewater treated this month was "wild water".   

    • Water consumption is up approximately 13% over August, 2006 and the majority of the increased consumption appears to be for outdoor uses.  We are also at a 7.3" precipitation deficit over the last six month period and Rainbow Lake is 1.0' below the spillway.  

    • We experienced no spills of untreated sewerage during the month of August 

    • We did exceed the plant's design capacity on two days during the month of August.            8/20 - 840,000 gal  &  8/21 - 975,000 gal

Trash: 

  • Trash pickup will remain Monday and Thursday for the Month of September, 2007

Parks:

  • Staff mulched around the playground equipment in Silo Hill Park

  • Staff replaced the basketball rim and backboard in Community Park

  • Staff installed additional lighting in the pavilion in Community Park

  • Staff performed standard mowing and trimming in all parks

Meetings Attended:

  • 08/14 Meeting with contractor to discuss alley and street paving projects

  • 08/14 With engineers to review sewer projects

  • 08/15 Frederick County Courthouse Elder vs Town of Emmitsburg

  • 08/22 Meeting with DNR reforestation  regulations. and projects

  • 08/23 Frederick County Chapter of the MML meeting

  • 08/28 Meeting with environmental consultant related to the Scott Road Farm

  • 08/29 Meeting of the Emergency Management Task Force
