Rabies In Emmitsburg

On Tuesday, April 10, an opossum was seen in the area of Irishtown Road and the Brookfield Subdivision.  On Wednesday, April 11, the opossum made contact with a dog in the area.  The opossum tested POSITIVE for rabies.

Anyone within the affected area whose animal may have had contact with the opossum should contact the Frederick County Health Department at 301-600-1717 and their veterinarian as soon as possible.

Any person who may have come into contact with the opossum should contact their primary care physician immediately.
