| Art Elder Born in Pittsburgh, PA. My mother, Becky Eyler, was born and raised in Thurmont, MD. My father, C. Arthur Elder, was born and raised in Emmitsburg. My parents went to
Pittsburgh looking for work in the old days, then we moved back to Emmitsburg in 1948 where dad took over Chronicle Press, the family printing and newspaper business. While growing up and going to school in Emmitsburg, I learned the printing business. I am a third generation
printer. Later in life I married Monica Warthen, also born and raised in Emmitsburg. I served six years in the National Guard. After the death of my father in 1971, I ran the printing business for mother. Later, I bought the business from her and ran it successfully till
1999. Now, my cousin Lisa Elder, and Chris Price, own and operate the business.
I saw many changes in Emmitsburg over the years, some good and some not so good. My lifelong knowledge of the town and business experience prompted me to run for Town Commissioner in 2003, which I won by a good margin. I am now serving as Water Commissioner and Town
Treasurer. As always, my heart is for the town and citizens of Emmitsburg. |
