The
Presentation of the Lord,
February 2 |
Forty days after the birth of a
child, the people of Israel
presented the newborn at the
temple in Jerusalem. The
gospels say that the parents of
Jesus obeyed this law. In doing
so, they revealed him as the
fulfillment of the law. Forty
days after our celebration of
the birth of Jesus the church
remembers his presentation at
the temple.
Today
is also the patronal feast of
Bolivia, Our Lady of
Copacabana. The title honors a
wooden statue of Mary carved in
the form of an Inca princess by
the Indian Francisco Tito
Yupanqui. The statue is
venerated in Copacabana, on an
isthmus on Lake Titicaca in the
Andes.
