The Monterey Pass Battlefield Association is a volunteer-based
community organization comprised of individuals, living historians and
community organizations dedicated to preserving the Civil War history
of the battles of Monterey Pass, Fairfield Pass, Smithsburg and the
Emmitsburg and Waynesboro Turnpike.
The Monterey Pass Battlefield Association has been organized for
the specific purpose of supporting the Monterey Pass battlefield and
the Civil War history of the surrounding areas. This support will be
broad-based and will include educating the public regarding the
battlefield's presence and historical significance through
interpretational programs. The association will also sponsor programs
both on-site and off, telling the story of the battle of Monterey Pass
and of the men who fought there and in the surrounding areas. In
addition, the association will enlist the aid of various community and
government organizations to help support the historic site, as well as assisting
them with historical and recreational resources and in gaining public
support. The association will also assist in the acquisition and
preservation of battlefield land. Members of the Monterey Pass
Battlefield Association recognize the importance of preserving, and
potential for developing, such an important historical site.
The Monterey Pass Battlefield
Association operates an in-house visitation center located at 144
North Church Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Since we are an
in-house center, our hours vary.
If you see the Pennsylvania Civil War Trails banner displayed from the
porch we are open. Unfortunately, at this
time the association's headquarters is not handicap accessible. On
street parking is available on King Street or by the M&T Bank near the
square of Waynesboro. For information, please feel free to write to us
or email us at

Follow us on our blog at the
War Returns to South
Mountain. The information War Returns to South Mountain will be
centered around the Battle of Monterey Pass. It is also a
collaboration of lesser known topics as they relate to South Mountain,
Emmitsburg and Waynesboro, including preservation news of the area.
