In year 2015 the Emmitsburg Lions Club is making available to high school seniors residing in its service district the Robert Gauss Sr. Memorial Scholarship.

The Emmitsburg Lions Club service district includes the Emmitsburg Elementary School District and resident students in the 21727 zip code.  This scholarship is an award of $1,000 to be used by its recipient for his/her pursuit of college or other post high school education.

Candidates for this scholarship must follow the following procedural guidelines in assembling their application:
1. An essay must be submitted to the Emmitsburg Lions Scholarship Committee.  The essay should answer the following questions:
A. How has your life been enriched through activities of community service?
B. How do you intend to continue to serve your community after high school, through college, and beyond?
Applicants are encouraged to include information such as career goals, high school activities, non-school activities, volunteerism, and any other pertinent information in answering these two questions in their essay.
2. A signed cover letter must accompany the essay.  The letter shall contain information that will identify the applicant only to the Emmitsburg Lions Club Scholarship Committee Chairman, so that the judges will not know the names of the applicants when reading their essays.  Applicants should not put their name on their essays.  Their names should only appear on the accompanying cover letter.
3. Applications must be received before 12:00 p.m. April, 17,2015. Please mail the cover letter and essay to:
Chairman, Emmitsburg Lions Club
Scholarship Committee
P.O Box 1182
Emmitsburg, Maryland 21727-1182
The Emmitsburg Lions Scholarship Committee will select the awardee based on the quality and thoroughness of the essay.  The decision of the committee is final.
The scholarship awardee will be announced at their high school award assemblies and recognized for their merit at the Emmitsburg Lions Club Memorial Ceremony, on Emmitsburg Community Heritage Day, Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 7:30pm.
Recipients of the scholarship will have their monetary award sent to their college/university or post-high school training school/academy.
