The 22nd Virginia served with Ten Army Districts

  • August 1861 1st Kanawha Infantry Regiment to May 1862
  • 1861 Kanawha Valley District, Army of the North West, Army of the Gauley River.
  • 1862 The Army of South Eastern Virginia, Army of the New River, The Army of South Western Virginia
  • 1863/1864 The Army of South Western Virginia
  • 1864 The Army of Northern Virginia (Cold Harbor Campaign), The Army of the Valley
  • 1865 The Army of Western Virginia until the 22nd Virginia disbanded.

NOTE: There were two 22nd Virginia units listed with the Confederate Army.

  • 22nd Virginia Battalion was a part of the Army of Northern Virginia from the Tidewater of eastern Virginia.
  • The 22nd Virginia Infantry Regiment was from the mountain regions of Western Virginia.
