The 22nd
Virginia Infantry's Descendants Page
Listing of Descendants who I've been in contact with in
2008
Emerson Williams - I just came across your
website. I found it very interesting because my ggreat
grandfather was in co. k. of the 22nd. His name was John
Clark Lewis and a private. He enlisted in April 1861 at
White Sulphur Springs and was in the army until captured
at Third Winchester Sept, 19th 1864 and was in Point
Lookout Prison in Maryland until March 15th 1865. His
brother Hezekiah Carr Lewis was in the 14th Va. Cavalry
and left Appomattox in April and surrendered in June
1865 at Charleston. I was able to track them through the
war with the records from Va regimental series and the
National archives and the war department. I had heard my
ggreat grandfathers name only as Clark Lewis. My cousin
was able to find much more info as John C. or just John
Lewis. Last year I retired and wrote a book about their
war adventures. They were from Trout, Greenbrier county
WV which was Lewis Mill, Va when the war started. I
called the book Roaring Creek since that's the creek
they lived on. I researched the battles extensively and
still made it a novel to give them some personality. It
has sold nearly a thousand copies and was juried at
Tamarack and accepted. It can be viewed at Trafford
Publishing website go to bookstore and type in Roaring
Creek. I have just self published a sequel to it called
Sinkhole Justice. It takes place upon their return home
from the war and can be found at
www.sinkholejustice.com
or at Amazon and all the big on line
bookstores. I was excited to find a web page for the
22nd. Nancy Hart also lived out her life at Trout and is
buried at Manning Knob. If any one would like to e-mail
me I would love to talk with other descendants. I can be
reached at
emersonwms@yahoo.com
and will mail a copy of either or both books. Some of
the SCV chapters here in the Richmond Va area where I
live have read them and want me to talk to their
members.
