Vacation Bible School

Karen Glass-Haddon

The first week of August was a hot one, indeed, but not too hot for everyone to enjoy another wonderful session of Vacation Bible School! Vacation Bible School was held at the Elias Lutheran Church the week of August 1 - 6 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm each evening. Pre-schoolers through Grades 5 & 6 attended classes to learn about God's Word. The theme for this year's curriculum was "Son Games." Son Games provided a background for the children to understand the upcoming Olympics and how the athletes used the power of prayer to help them through the Olympics Games.

Each evening opened with a group music session. Then each class individually enjoyed their classroom Bible studies. Each group also enjoyed making a different craft each evening, followed by a snack, and learning a new song.

Parents were invited to attend the closing program on Friday evening. The children paraded in together and sang group songs they had learned that week. Then each class sang their own song or participated in a group skit. The teachers and assistants were also presented with a gift that was hand-made by the children in their class (a tote bag that had each child's name and decoration on the front). Sue Allen also received a special bouquet of flowers to thank her for many years of providing wonderful music leadership for Vacation Bible School. The evening concluded with refreshments provided by all the churches in the area.
