Teacher of the Year Award Thurmont Lions Club honored the nominees for the club’s
2007 Teacher of the Year Award on Tuesday, April 17 at Thurmont Primary School.
A total of ten teachers from the Thurmont, Lewistown and Sabillasville schools were nominated for this prestigious honor. One nominee from each of the six schools in the programwas
chosen by Lions Club judges to be the school’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year. From these six finalists one Overall Thurmont Lions Club 2007 Teacher of the Year will be selected by
the judges on May 23.
Teachers were nominated by their peers, students and/or parents.
Nominees from each school included Heather Flickinger (Gr. K) and Heather Hommey (Gr. 1), Thurmont Primary School; James McGivern (Gr. 4), Thurmont Elementary School; Michelle Keegin
(Gr. K) , Lewistown Elementary School; Brenda Smith (Gr. 3), Tonya Wantz (Gr. 4) and Marnie Mortenson (Gr. 2) Sabillasville Elementary School; Berna LaForce (Theater
Arts/Music/Vocal) and Rebecca Althoff (Gr. 7 Math), Thurmont Middle School, and Matt Sweigart (Modern World History), Catoctin High School.
“Our teachers play such an important role in the lives of our youth and this program is our small way of reminding them that we appreciate what they do,” said Shirley Long of the
Thurmont Lions Club.
