Following the success of last spring’s "You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown", the Thurmont Thespians have elected to bring another musical to Thurmont. Dan
Goggin’s "Nunsense" is a toe-tapping, rollicking humorous show which has delighted audiences.
This order of nuns, The Little Sisters of Hoboken, has returned from a stint at a leper colony to discover a disaster at their convent involving dead bodies
in the freezer which they are busily trying to circumvent by raising money on their school’s set where they are doing "Grease". Each nun has been asked to display their talent and
what you see will range from a ballet by Sister Leo to a Nashville parody by Sister Amnesia all accomplished in their nun habits – no small feat! The tap dance number will have the
audience wishing they could tap dance too while the chorus line dancing in nun habit has to be seen to be believed!!
Five local women will portray the ‘Little Sisters of Hoboken’ at the Thurmont American Legion April 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, and 29, 2007. The cast is composed of
new actresses as well as recognizable ones from past Thurmont Thespian shows.
Chris Smith of Fairfield helms the cast as the feisty Reverend Mother and Alyce Luck of Frederick portrays Reverend Mother’s right hand nun Sister Hubert.
Sister Robert Anne, the trouble maker of the group, will be played by Kelli Donaghue of Woodsboro. Becca Corbell of Fairfield will be taking on the role of Sister Amnesia with dreams
of being a country music star. Rounding out the cast will be Andrea LaBombard of Thurmont who will be the innocent novice nun Sister Leo. Becca Richards of Thurmont will be the
understudy for the show and is ready to step in at a moment’s notice.
Since this show lends itself to an intimate environment with audience and actor interaction, it will be done in the three-quarter round, allowing for 30 to 40
front row seats.
This production is directed by Steven Ross of Frederick and codirected by Beth Watson of Sabillasville.
Musical direction is by Anne Raugh of Frederick and choreography is by Jennifer Buchheister of Fairfield. Robbie Freed of Frederick will be the accompanist
for the show - a first for Thurmont Thespians! Mary Lou Royer of Florida (soon to be Thurmont) has taken on the role of creating costumes for the show. Spence Watson of Sabillasville
will be doing set construction and lighting design. Sean Collins will take a turn back stage instead of on stage as he manages the production.
The show will open Friday, April 20th at 8:00 p.m. with dessert or snack theatre on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday the first weekend. On the second weekend
(April 27th) choose from a dinner theatre on Saturday and a dessert or snack theater Friday and Sunday. The ticket price for show is $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors.
The fried chicken and ham dinner theatre price is $25 for everyone. The reservation number for all performances is 301-271-7613. Early reservations are encouraged to ensure ample
seating.
