Local Volunteers Needed for Championship Golf Event in Gettysburg

Volunteers are now being sought for the upcoming Duramed FUTURES Tour event, The Gettysburg Championship, scheduled for August 22 – 26 at The Links At Gettysburg. Hundreds will be needed for a wide array of support tasks and duties, including caddying, scoring, operations and hospitality.

The 2007 Gettysburg Championship marks the second year in a row that the Duramed FUTURES Tour stops at the prestigious Adams County golf complex, which first hosted the tournament last year. Competition dates are Friday, August 24 through Sunday, August 26. Two Pro-Am competitions will be held Wednesday and Thursday, August 22 and 23.

Sue Masenheimer, chairperson of the Volunteer Committee for the Gettysburg Championship, said "participating in the Championship is a fun and unique opportunity for school, church or other community groups, as well as for individuals who want to see the pros of tomorrow up close and personal."

Volunteers receive a pass for all 3 days of the tournament, snacks and refreshments, and a special appreciation picnic.

Masenheimer said there are a variety of duties that can be filled be persons of any age, though those 16 years of age and up are preferred. Volunteers are to register to participate through the event website at www.gettysburgchampionship.com. No volunteer registrations will be taken over the phone.

"We had several hundred volunteers last year," said Masenheimer, "and each had an enjoyable time and was thrilled to participate. We hope all of last year’s volunteers return for this year’s event, though many more are needed to adequately staff all the positions throughout the five day event." Volunteers will be contacted by the Committee once they have completed their online applications.

The Gettysburg Championship will offer a $100,000 purse for this year’s competitors, one of the most lucrative tour stops on the 19-city Duramed FUTURES Tour. Some 144 LPGA hopefuls are expected to compete at The Links At Gettysburg course, which has often been recognized as one of the top golf resorts in Pennsylvania by golf industry professionals.
