Weis Markets will host a Grand Opening of their 24th store in Thurmont on Saturday, October 21, 2006.

The new store is a 57,000 square foot superstore with the very latest store design. "Our new store prototype offers customers tremendous one stop shopping convenience – in addition to outstanding value and variety. As a company which operates multiple stores in Frederick and Hagerstown, we feel right at home in Thurmont," said Dennis Curtin, director of public relations for Weis Markets.

The Thurmont Weis superstore will include: a 500-item produce department with a selection of organic produce and a floral department; a large deli with a pizza kitchen, an express register, a Hoagie Shack with a sit-down eating area; a center store offering excellent variety (including a selection of natural, organic, gourmet and ethnic items); a full-service bakery; a service seafood department; a pharmacy; and self-scan registers.

Mr. Curtin added that in celebration of the Grand Opening, Weis Markets is making separate $1,000 donations to the town of Thurmont for various community events, the Thurmont Food Bank and the Guardian Hose Co. They have also donated $10,000 to the Frederick Memorial

Health Foundation to establish a maternity clinic for uninsured or underinsured women in Frederick County.
