A Whimsical Place Changes Ownership
A Whimsical Place on East Main Street in Thurmont recently changed ownership. Alice Jensen, the original owner who opened the gift shop several years ago, recently sold the business to Teresa Dunn of Thurmont. Teresa and her fiancé
Dave Kath and son moved to Thurmont last May from Jefferson.
Teresa was a regular customer at A Whimsical Place and was at the right place at the right time and was able to purchase the business from Alice. "I shopped here all the time and had been looking for a business to own in my own community," said Teresa. She
has many years of retail experience and felt that A Whimsical Place would be the perfect match for her. "It was exactly what I was looking for," she added.
The shop will remain mostly the same, with the same unique and interesting variety of gift items and home decorations. However, Teresa has added some new lines to the shop including more furniture, stained glass pieces, handpainted signs, florals, table
runners, afghans, handmade scarves and ponchos, and Longaberger® baskets just to name a few. Teresa also plans to offer a jewelry making and other arts and crafts classes at the store.
The biggest change to the store has been the store hours. Teresa expanded the hours and is now open seven days a week, Monday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.
The Tea Room at the shop remains in full swing and Teresa is in the process of planning some special teas such as sweetheart teas for couples and mother-daughter teas. The Tea Room offers professionally catered Teas for up to 15 people by reservation only.
