High School Senior Raises over
 $2,000 for Breast Cancer Fund

Whitney Crist, a senior at Catoctin High School, and a participant in advanced music studies at Governor Thomas Johnson High School’s Arts and Communications Academy, chose as her senior project an endeavor that not only suited her college ambitions and professional career goals, but also helped in a cause that struck close to home. Miss Crist organized a benefit concert for the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund.

Held at the Frederick Church of the Brethren in mid-December, the concert featured six of the areas finest instrumental and vocal groups, including The Frederick Catoctones, The Frederick Chorale, The A Capella Showcase Chorus, Mom’s Night Out, The Catoctin High School Band with trumpet artist Dr. John Pursell, and vocalist Lauren Eberhardt.

"I wanted to do something that would benefit my community. A family member was recently diagnosed with cancer, and I thought what better way to give back than to assist breast cancer research and care," said Miss Crist. A total of $2,455 was raised for the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund through donations given at the door by those attending the concert.
