Jen Krietz, a junior at Catoctin High School, will be scooping up ice cream on Sunday, May 7 to help raise money for the American Heart Association. "Ice Cream for Heart" is
a Jen’s graduation community service project.
Jen wanted to choose a "lasting impression" project for her required graduation project. "I chose this project to help promote awareness for heart attacks and heart disease," said Jen.
Heart disease hits close to home for Jen since her dad suffered a heart attack last summer. Jen’s dad is fine, but the scare motivated her to learn more about heart disease and to help teach others.
As an employee of Gateway Market and Candyland, she approached owner Maggie Doll with the idea for "Ice Cream for Heart". Maggie was very eager to help. The market donated all the goods and the services for the event.
To help Jen raise her goal of $1,000 to benefit the Heart Association, stop by Gateway Market and Candyland on May 7 between 12:00 and 7:00 p.m. The cost of every ice cream order purchased during that time will be donated 100% to the American Heart
Association. Purchases for cones, cups, sundaes, and shakes are all included.
"Enjoy a Sunday afternoon treat for a good cause," said Jen. Gateway Market and Candyland is located on North Franklinville Road at the intersection of US Route 15-south. For more information call the market at 301-271-2322.
