Emmitsburg Opening Day April 29, 2006

Jeannie Doane, Emmitsburg

The Emmitsburg Baseball & Softball League will enjoy their opening day ceremonies on April 29, 2006, at 9:00 a.m. on the baseball fields at Memorial Park in Emmitsburg.  During the ceremonies the League will be honoring our troops and several area soldiers who are currently serving, as well as several who have recently served in the armed forces, will be recognized guests.

A 50/50 drawing will be held during the opening day and proceeds of the raffle will be donated to Adam Kisielewski, a local veteran who was disabled while serving in Iraq.

In addition to honoring our troops the League will close a time capsule which will be stored in the press box for a future generation to open.

The opening day ceremonies will be followed by an opening day game at 10:00 a.m. between the Emmitsburg Dodgers and the Emmitsburg Red Sox.

The 2006 baseball season is coming together and looks to be another exciting season for Emmitsburg.  The Emmitsburg Redwings will be representing the 13 and 14 year old baseball division in the South Adam Pony League. The Dodgers and Red Sox will represent the 11 and 12 year old division in the Mason Dixon Pony League again this year.

Emmitsburg is proud to be adding a third team to its 9 and 10 year old division. The Cardinals, Orioles and Giants will represent this division in the Mason Dixon Pony League, as well.  While these teams will compete at home and away games, the rest of the baseball divisions will make a great showing playing each other on the fields in Emmitsburg.

The minor league division of 7 and 8 year olds will have four teams again this year. They will include the Expos, Astros, Orioles and Tigers.

The League is pleased to have eight T-ball teams again this year.  The explosion last year from 4 teams to 8 teams appears to be an expansion that is here to stay.

The League’s softball division is proudly adding a third team to its ranks this year.  The Wildcats, Panthers and Angels will be representing girls up to age 12.  They will be competing at home and away games in the Frederick County Girls Softball League.

With a total addition of six teams in two years, the League is looking forward to yet another enjoyable season playing America’s favorite past time, baseball!
