Girls Go Undefeated in Regular Season and Tournament Play
This year, the Catoctin Recreation Council (CRC) of Thurmont started a new girls softball league and fielded one team in each age group (8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U) of the Frederick County Girls’ Softball League (FCGSL).
All four CRC teams did well for the first year, and the 12U team had an exceptional year going completely undefeated in 14 games in the FCGSL. After the league season was over, the 12U team played in the Winfield Classic Tournament the weekend
of July 9 and 10, 2005.
In the Winfield Classic, the girls played two games on Saturday, to determine their seed for the single elimination round on Sunday. After winning both games on Saturday, they were the Number One Seed for the tournament.
On Sunday, in three consecutive games, the girls defeated teams from Sterling, Va., Forest Hills, Md. and for the Championship, the girls defeated the Glen Burnie Leprechauns to finish undefeated in the tournament as well.
The Catoctin Recreation Council is a non-profit, totally volunteer organization. In addition to softball, the CRC has after school programs, boys and girls basketball and dances for middle school students. If you would like more information or
