Keeping Kids Safe: CHS Safe and Sane Program

Catoctin Safe and Sane is the graduation party thrown by the parents of graduation seniors at Catoctin High School. The annual party is packed with entertainment, food, prizes and much more, designed to keep students safe all night long and out of harm’s way on graduation night. Typically over 96% of the graduates attend the party. Since the

program began in 1990, the committee states they have had no alcohol or drug related deaths on graduation night.

The price of this entertaining event is costly and many fundraisers are organized by parent volunteers throughout the year to prepare for this annual event. A number of fundraising events are currently in progress. You can help support Catoctin Safe and Sane by making a donation or by participating in these fundraisers.

In November, a Lottery Restaurant Raffle will be held. Tickets are a $5.00 donation. For more information contact Carolyn Brown at 301- 447-2031. On Friday, November 18, 2005 a Basket Bingo will be held in the activities building at the Guardian Hose Co. carnival grounds. Tickets are $15.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door. Contact Carol Minnick for tickets by calling 301-271-3250. Refreshments will be available.

Stop by Lawyer’s Winterbrook Farms Corn Maze on November 4 and 5 for a pumpkin shoot to benefit. For times contact Robin McAfee at 301-416-0371.

A unique fundraiser for Safe and Sane is being held in cooperation with Rosensteel Studios of Emmitsburg. Place your order for a $50.00 gift certificate to Rosensteel Studio, (equivalent to the cost of a sitting fee and a free 8x10 portrait) and Safe and Sane will receive $25.00 — a full 50% goes back to the organization! You can use your certificate as a Christmas gift or toward family or graduation portraits. Certificates purchased through this promotion will be valid through December 2007. For more information call Robin McAfee at 301-416-0371. Orders will be accepted through December 2, 2005.

The plans are well underway for this year’s event to be held June 8, 2006. Volunteers and donations are needed. To volunteer, call Carolyn Brown at 301-447-2031. Mail donations to Catoctin High School,
