Annual Community Show Round-Up

The 49th annual Thurmont and Emmitsburg Community Show was held on September 9, 10 and 11 at the Catoctin High School in Thurmont. There was an excellent attendance all three days and the weather was ideal the entire weekend. This year, the show had approximately 700 exhibitors who entered over 2,800 exhibits. Full Story

Chief Warrant Officer 5 Ed Penick, brother of the town’s lawyer Lynn Board, came to a town meeting on October 12, 2005 to personally thank Thurmont for helping him during his last tour of duty.  Full Story

Bishop John Dubois: Pioneer

Have you ever heard of Bishop John Dubois? You may ask what this unheralded New York cleric had to do with Frederick County, Maryland, and Emmitsburg in particular. US 15 in Frederick County Designated  A National Scenic Byway: The U.S. Department of Transportation officially designated the Catoctin Mountain Scenic Byway in an official ceremony in September. Full Story

Thurmont Adopts Waveland, Miss. Area for Hurricane Relief:  The Town of Thurmont, Maryland has adopted the rural communities of Olde Town, Kiln and others close to Waveland, Mississippi in Hancock County.  Full Story

Emmitsburg and Thurmont Churches Work to Help End Hunger Locally and Globally: This fall, tens of thousands of people in communities across the United States will be raising money to fund  poverty and hunger relief efforts. Full Story

Emmitsburg Volunteer Ambulance Receives $118,700 in Federal Funding: The Emmitsburg Volunteer Ambulance Company, Inc. received $118,700 in Federal grants and will use it to purchase a new ambulance. Full Story
