Mrs. Helen Bentz

Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Bentz, 95, of Graceham, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at her residence. She was the wife of Charles Bernard Bentz, who died Sept. 25, 1986.

Born March 3, 1909, in Graceham, she was the daughter of the late Harry G. and Lottie Hummerick Groshon.

Mrs. Bentz was a lifetime member of Graceham Moravian Church and the Women's Fellowship. She had been employed at Cambridge Rubber Company and as a seamstress at Claire Frock. She was a member of the Thurmont Senior Citizens and sang with the Catoctin Canaries. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting.

Mrs. Bentz was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are a daughter, Dulcie Mae Biser of Thurmont; three sons, Charles W. Bentz and wife Beatrice, James B. Bentz and wife Louise and Raymond E. "Doodle" Bentz and wife Rosalie, all of Thurmont; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Glenn Groshon; and a sister, Carrie Wilson.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27 at the Graceham Moravian Church, 8231 Rocky Ridge Road, Thurmont, with her pastor, the Rev. Jeffery Gehris, officiating.

Interment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family in the Graceham Cemetery, Graceham.
