For the month of October, Temperatures will be above average with Precipitation to be above average as well.

Weather Watch: Severe Storms (1,2,3,4,) with more rain and cooler temperatures (5,6). Fair and mild (7,8,9,10) with showers (11,12). Fair and warm (13,14,15) with showers and Storms and humid weather returning (16,17,18,19). TROPICAL STORM (20,21,22) with fair and cooler temperatures (23,24,25,26). More showers and STORMS (27,28,29,30) turning fair and mild at the end of the month (30).

Tornado Watch: There is considerable Tornado activity at both the beginning of October from the 1st to the 4th and at the end of the month between the 20th and the 22nd.

Full Moon: the full moon in October will occur on October 27th at 10:07pm is 2004's Hunter's moon. Often referred to as the Yellow Leaf moon because of turning of many leaves to bright colors at this time of year, it also has been called the big feast moon because of the many harvests and bounty this time of year enjoys.

Special Notes: Enjoy the many Fall Festivals that are planned across the region. Many have contests for the best scarecrow or most scary pumpkin craving so express you and your family's creativity. Don't forget to "fall back" one hour on Sunday, October 31st at 2AM EDT when Daylight Savings ends.

Holidays: Columbus Day will be celebrated on Monday, October 11th, Ramadan begins on the 15th, and United Nations Day falls on Sunday, the 24th. Have a safe and Happy Halloween on Sunday, October 31stand as always, plan those trick-or-treat activities to end early for the young ones. After dark, be sure to have older children wear reflective clothing (or costumes!). Give sensible treats like sugarless candies and gums or nonfood alternatives like stickers, whistles, toy animals, etc.

The Garden: Rake way all dead grass. Do not prune or fertilize any trees, plants or shrubs. They need to go into a resting phase to prepare for colder months ahead. Do add fertilize to compost heap with new mulch and check the soil's pH levels. If too acidic, apply lime.
