Charles R. "Dick" Bollinger

Born: May 6, 1912 in Emmitsburg, MD. Died: July 31, 1953 (non-combat death – heart attack) while serving in Korea in the vicinity of Pusan.

Dates/places of service: 1936-1938: Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.  1940-1946: Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD, Camp Claiborne, LA, Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN, Camp Beale, CA, Karachi, India. 1949-1953: Fort Knox, KY, Camp Pickett, VA, Pusan, Korea

Medals and Awards: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, American Defense Service, National Defense, American Campaign 41-45, Victory WWII, Good Conduct, United Nations Korean Service, Korean Service, Expert Rifleman Badge, with bars for Bayonet, Small Bore, Machine Gun, and Automatic Rifle

Graduated Emmitsburg High School 1929. Attended Gettysburg College 1932-1935 on athletic scholarship, playing baseball. Graduated with BA in History. Worked for his father in Emmitsburg as butcher prior to joining army.  

Married to Marie V. Cox, June 22, 1942
