George Eyster born in (near Emmitsburg?), Maryland in 1847 and was one of Andrew Eyster's eight
children.
In the
1860 Federal Census, George was living in the home of
Catherine Hockensmith, a 58 year old widow, in Emmitsburg.
The fought in the Civil War with Company C of
Cole's Cavalry as a
Private. He
enlisted on March 8, 1865 and mustered out of service on June
28, 1865.
During the 1880's Federal Census George and his brother
Hall W. Eyster owned a jewelry store in Emmitsburg.
George was married to
Fannie about 1895.
She was
the sister of William A. Frailey, who was also a member of
Cole's Calvary.
In 1900
he lived next door to his brother, Hall, both still listed as
jewelers.
In 1910
he lived on West Main Street. He was not only a watchmaker,
but also owned his own shop with his younger brother, Hall Webster Eyster.
George Died in 1912.
George's
brother Samuel H. Eyster was a veteran of the Civil War. He
enlisted and fought with the First Pennsylvania Reserves until
being severely wounded at the battle of Antietam. After his
discharge he moved to Ohio for four year and then returned to
Emmitsburg where he died on August 30th, 1908 at the home of
his brother W. H. Eyster.
