Music, Gettysburg! Presents
The Eaken Piano Trio in Concert

(10/25) Music, Gettysburg! brings John Eaken and the Eaken Piano Trio in concert at the Gettysburg Seminary chapel, 147 Seminary Ridge, Sunday October 28th, at 4:00 p.m.

A second appearance for Music, Gettysburg! concert series, the trio will play the music of Mozart, Joaquin Turina, Johannes Brahms, George Gershwin, and a transcription of the Eaken trio of a Fritz Kreisler piece in the Sunday afternoon concert.

The Grammy nominated trio includes Eaken on violin, pianist Gloria Whitney and cellist Andrew Rammon. The trio will also include guest violist Joseph Esmilla in this concert.

The Eaken Piano Trio recently marked their twentieth season of acclaimed concert appearances across the United States, Europe, and Canada. The trio is noted for its enthusiastic performances and innovative audience-building residencies. The Trio's rigorous touring schedule includes multiple tours of Europe; in May 2007, they toured China.

In the period of 1991 through 2000, the Trio was in residence at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, and they continue to provide inspiring residencies throughout the United States. Their program was recognized by Chamber Music America as one of the five most successful in the nation.

The Trio is heard regularly on classical radio–including National Public Radio's All Things Considered and Performance Today. For the last eight years, the Trio's holiday radio program, I'll be Home for the Holidays, was aired on over 150 radio stations nationwide, coordinated with Habitat for Humanity International. Using their music to raise awareness for America's homeless population, The Trio is proud of their involvement in community outreach programs that have generated tens of thousands of dollars to support organizations that help the homeless and homeless animals.

The Trio has issued numerous recordings to critical praise. In 2005 they recorded Joaquin Turina's Second Piano Trio and the Ravel Piano Trio, on the CD Playing with Fire. Their seasonal recordings, Home for the Holidays and I'll Be Home for the Holidays, were two of the top five best sellers nationwide for Naxos for the last five years. Other Trio releases include enthusiastically received recordings of American piano trios by Gunther Schuller, Gerald Shipiro, and Lalo Shifrin on the Naxos "American Music Series." They have also recorded works by Mendelssohn, Arensky, Haydn, and Gershwin.
