New Buffet & Restaurant Brings Asian Style Dining to Gettysburg

7/28/04 - May Flowers, a new restaurant serving Chinese and Japanese cuisine, opened in May at 533 Steinwehr Avenue, Gettysburg, across from the National Park Visitors Center. This exquisitely decorated establishment offers lunch and dinner buffet, full menu, and a Sushi bar. The restaurant offers lunch specials, parties, catering and drive through service. May Flowers is open Sundays from 11:30 AM to 10 PM, Monday through Thursday, 10:30 AM to 10 PM and Friday and Saturdays from 10:30 AM until 11PM.

Owners Cun Yin (Joey) and Min Lin (Mindy) Liu bring their style, concept and dedication from New York. Cun Yin Liu personally designed the restaurant, formerly Hardee's. Any guest to the restaurant familiar with the structure's former life will wonder how and those who are unaware will never have a clue! The grand entrance to the restaurant leads patrons to a new land, one of color, texture, flavor, and aroma. Before getting to the table, the senses are in shock - is this Gettysburg?

To attempt to describe the interior would not do the restaurant justice. Use of color, lights, and fabrics brings the energy level up in this casual establishment. Scanning May Flowers, you will note the divided dining room to the front, the sushi bar as you enter and the three overstuffed buffet bars in the back section. The divided dining area offers a traditional oriental design to one side and a more contemporary design on the other complete with twinkling evening stars and a wall fish tank. Dividing the two sections is a spectacular etched glass comprised of three panels - one of the Mayflower, another of President Lincoln on horseback, and the center frame a tribute to 9-11 with the skyline of New York City, still showing the two towers.

Before ordering, you have already experienced a dance of the senses, and a tug on the heartstrings! The full buffet, including sushi offerings, is a mere $5.99 at lunch and $9.99 for dinner. The full menu offers both Chinese and Japanese cuisine, including favorites such as Chow Mein, Sweet & Sour Chicken, and General Tso's Chicken. May Flowers menu also includes lunch specials, combination platters, a diet menu, and house specialties. House specialties, served with white rice, include Fillet Mignon with onion, mushroom, broccoli in black pepper & scallion sauce; Hibiscus Shrimp; Peking Duck; or Lobster made three ways to name a few. Servings are large, so you will not walk away hungry. But if you do have room, you can enjoy dessert. A variety of soft drinks, teas, and coffee are served; guests are welcome to bring your own choice of alcoholic beverage to accompany your meal.

Parking for the May Flowers is available on-site with additional parking for cars and buses behind the restaurant. For more information on May Flowers Asian Buffet & Restaurant, please call 717-337-3377 or 717-337-9998.
