Civil War Heritage Days

On Thursday evening, Michael A. Dreese will present the last lecture of the Evening Lecture Series. His talk is entitled "Advance the Colors: Union and Confederate Battle-flags and Color-Bearers at Gettysburg" will be presented at 8 PM at the Riegle Auditorium/Gettysburg Middle School. Requested donations are $2 per adult and $1 for seniors and students.

The 17th Annual Gettysburg Civil War Fair begins place on Thursday, July 1 at 6 PM. The show, which is open until 9 PM, will be held in the Ballroom at the Best Western - Gettysburg Hotel "1797". Over 40 Civil War book dealers will offer new, used, out-of-print, reprints, and rare publications, documents, photographs and more. The show will also be open from 2 - 8 PM on Friday, July 2 and Saturday, July 3. Admission is charged.

On Friday, July 2nd, "Crossroads of Destiny", a series of Civil War Battle Reenactments will begin. Presented by the Gettysburg Anniversary Committee, tentative battle scenarios are "Thundering Hell" and "A.P. Hill's Corps Probes the Federal Line" for Friday, July 2nd; "Clash of the 11th Corps Barlow Retreat" and "Longstreet Attacks" for Saturday, July 3rd; and "Cavalry Battle Custer vs. Stuart" and "The Highwater Mark - Pickett's Charge" on Sunday, July 4th. There will be Living History and Author appearance and signing the American Civil War Museum/Gettysburg Gift Center on July 2, 3, and 4. Contact 717-334-6245. This event is open to the public and there is no charge.

The Gettysburg Fire Department Carnival continues at the Gettysburg Recreation Park with games, rides and booths until Saturday night. On Friday, July 2nd fireworks will be presented at 11 PM.

The National Park Service will feature Living History Encampments from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Pennsylvania Monument and Pitzer Woods. The camps will offer demonstrations of authentic Civil War infantry tactics, drills, soldiers' occupations and pastimes. The public is welcome to visit and ask questions. Additional Living History encampments will be set up at a variety of locations throughout Gettysburg.

On Saturday, July 3rd, there will be a Living History Reenactment as "Confederates Take Schriver House!" Scheduled 4 - 9 PM, contact 717-337-2800 for more information.
