Emmitsburg to host 2019 National Night Out

(6/30) On Tuesday, August 6, the town of Emmitsburg will become host to Frederick County’s National Night Out, a nationwide event held annually on the first Tuesday in August.

National Night Out dates back to the 1990’s in Frederick County and 2017 in Emmitsburg. It is an annual community-building campaign with the goal of making communities safer places to live and work by bringing police and the public together under positive circumstances to help build community relationships.

Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide. Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and more. The event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, build support and participation in local anti-crime programs and, most importantly, represents the kind of spirit, energy and determination that is helping to make many neighborhoods safer places to live. It’s also the perfect opportunity to get to know your neighbors even better.

Although Emmitsburg has been holding a National Night Out celebration since 2017, the 2019 celebration will be the largest celebration held by the Town because Emmitsburg will be teaming up with Frederick County and the Frederick County Sheriff's Office to host the county-wide celebration in Emmitsburg’s Community Park! An official line-up of events has not yet been listed, as vendor applications are currently being accepted by the town. However, the Town plans to have hot dogs, ice-cream, music, face painting, vendors, fire trucks, SWAT teams, K-9 demonstrations, McGruff the crime dog and much, much, much more. Admission is free to the public and family participation is encouraged. The Town plans to announce a schedule of events and map by July 30. More information will follow closer to the event.
