A Way with Words: The Art of Poetry Writing and
Performance
Level: Students entering grades 7-9
Time: June 23-27, 1-4 p.m.
Description:
Combining creative thought,
writing, and performance, young poets and
poets-to-be will learn to write poems, then
present them individually or collectively,
giving voice to their ideas and feelings in ways
that support self-esteem and self-confidence.
Bring along a pen and some paper.

Drawing and Painting and Sculpture, Oh My!
Level: Ages 5-7
Time: June 30-July 3, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Description: Spend some lazy summer mornings
learning about and creating art! We’ll use our
powers to observe and imagine as we explore the
2nd and 3rd dimensions in projects using papier
mache, pencils, clay, and tempura paint.

Puppet, Portraits and Masks
Level: Ages 5-7
Time: July 7-11, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Description: Create interesting puppets while
learning a little about puppetry the world over!
Make a life-sized self-portrait! Explore
symmetry/asymmetry, exaggeration, and color as
we create our own masks! Sure to be a fun and
inventive time!

Hands-On Art Voyage!
Level: Ages 9-12
Time: July 7-11, 1-4 p.m.
Description: Students create artworks while
“traveling” to different places and periods in
history. In India and Southeast Asia, we’ll make
shadow puppets and explore the Hindu epic
adventure, the Ramayana. In Ancient Egypt, we’ll
create clay cartouches, using hieroglyphs and
our own invented symbols. In Ancient Greece,
we’ll look at the architecture and get ideas for
making our own picture frames. Ready? All
Aboard!

Musical Theater: Tricks, Tips & Techniques
Level: 13 and up
Time: July 14-18, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Description:
A camp for theater buffs! We’ll
learn about the audition process, prepare a
monologue, and work on sight reading. We’ll also
explore different styles of musical dance (like
Twyla Tharpe, Bob Fosse, Cole Porter, and tap)
and singing (with songs from Les Mis, Hairspray,
and Rent). At the end of the week, we’ll perform
a mini-cabaret for parents. Great for teens who
love school and community drama productions.
Camp will be held at the Gettysburg Dance
Center, 775 Old Harrisburg Rd.

Fabulous Found-Object Fashion
Level: Ages 8-10
Time: July 14-18, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Description:
Use objects such as old fabric,
recyclable material, newspapers, magazines, and
various other found objects to create wearable
art! From skirts and hats to scarves and
jewelry, we’ll tackle our projects as
contemporary designers with a twist! And we’ll
end the week with a fabulous found-object
fashion show!

Designing with Nature
Level: Ages 5-7
Time: July 14-18, 1-4 p.m.
Description: Learn multiple skills as we explore
patterns in nature. We’ll start with a field
excursion, observing and sketching the natural
world around us. Then we’ll return to the
Imagination Station to explore basic printmaking
and bookbinding techniques using specimens we
collect on our walk. We’ll focus on the
principles of design found in our natural world
as we create our own bound sketchbooks!

Thinking 3-D!
Level: Ages 8-10
Time: July 21-25, 9 a.m-12 p.m.
Description: Transform your ideas into all
shapes and sizes of sculptures. Imaginative
creatures, flying machines, and found-object
paintings are just a taste of what’s to come
during this camp. If you like to build, you’ll
love thinking 3-D!

Art Exploratorium
Level: Ages 9-14
Time: July 28-August 1, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Description: Create art in 2D and 3D as you
develop new skills in drawing, painting,
carving, and sculpture. We’ll work in pencils,
charcoal, acrylic paints, watercolors, carving
medium, and clay as we create a variety of fun
and interesting products.

Fashion Illustration
Level: Ages 10-17
Time: July 28 and 29, 1-4 p.m.; July 30, 1-5
p.m.
Description: Explore the world of fashion
illustration through a variety of media and
illustration techniques. Using both realistic
and stylistic approaches, you’ll receive
intensive instruction and practice drawing the
fashion figure from live models and magazine
images. We’ll explore figure proportion, pose,
fabric structure, and garment detail. If you
have a particular drawing material, bring it
along!

Music in the Garden
Level: Grades K-3
Time: Saturdays, June 21 and 28, 9-11 a.m.
Description:
This introductory music-and-art class
combines simple children’s songs with images
and drawings the children will create.
