“Spirits of the Night” is the theme for the
2008 Arts Council Masquerade Party, our major
annual fundraiser (and arguably the county’s
most rocking party) to help cultivate an
arts-rich community by supporting arts in
education and the work of local artists. ACAC
has also changed the date of the party, now in
its eighth year – from the last Friday in
October to Saturday, November 1, from 8 p.m. to
midnight at the Gettysburg Hotel.
“We changed the party date to a Saturday so
people don’t have to rush to get ready after
work,” explained event chair and ACAC Board
member Darlene Brown, “plus it makes it easier
for people to come from throughout the County.
And we chose this theme because it represents
the community spirit that drives the Council’s
work – and offers numerous interpretations for
both event planning and creative costuming!”
Guests are invited to let the spirits guide
them to come as they aren’t (the more
elaborately masked and costumed, the better,
with numerous costume prizes to be awarded)
…enjoy dancing to the spirited music of the
Colgan-Hirsh Band with the Slammin’ Horns
…imbibe in the spirits of the alcoholic variety
from the cash bar…commune with the spirits
through free Tarot readings… capture your spirit
in photos by Nanette Hatzes…and, most
importantly, contribute to the arts in Adams
County by engaging in some spirited bidding at
the silent auction. Pre-event help to get in the
spirit will be offered by ACAC’s Imagination
Station in October, with classes in mask-making
and introductory ballroom dancing.
Décor for the event will be courtesy of Adams
County’s “Spirited Ladies” artists, and the
Gettysburg Hotel menu for the pre-party dinner
will feature “spirited” (i.e., wine and
liquor-flavored) entrées.
