What’s Hangin’? Picture-Hanging
Workshop Wednesday, March 7, 10 a.m.-12
p.m.
So you have some art at home, but
you’re not sure how best to hang it? Maybe it
doesn’t look quite right on your wall? This
seminar is for you! Gallery 30 artistic director
Peggy Rock will take the guesswork out of
grouping and hanging artwork. We’ll meet in our
gallery space to explore a variety of ways to
hang different styles of art (including mirrors)
to reflect your personal style and create the

Intermediate Photoshop Elements
Tuesdays, March 20-April 10, 6-8 p.m.
Learn advanced techniques of
digital photo manipulation and enhancement using
Adobe Photoshop Elements. You’ll learn how to
improve the quality of your digital photos and
alter them for artistic expression. Designed for
those experienced in digital photographic work.

Window Light Portraits
Wednesdays, April 4-25, 1-3 p.m.
Learn how to use a variety of
portrait lighting techniques—broad, short,
split, Rembrandt, and butterfly—all with one
light source: a window! You’ll photograph models
or other students to learn how to position both
the camera and the subject to achieve the
desired lighting and create a great portrait.
We’ll also explore basic retouching techniques
using photo-editing software, as well as
strategies for putting your subject at ease so
that you can capture her or his personality in
your portrait. Bring your digital camera to
class.

New to digital
photography? This class is for you! Learn how to
use your camera, take great photos, load photos
onto your computer, manipulate them using your
camera’s software, and make professional-looking
prints. Bring your camera and instruction manual
to class.

At the Canvas: Exploring Painting
**Oils and Acrylics**
Pet Portraits
Mondays, March 12-April 16, 6-8 p.m.
Work from life and a series of
photographs to compose and complete a portrait
of your favorite pet. This class is a great
introduction to learning some basic animal
drawings skills and developing a composition and
color scheme for animal portraiture. Some
drawing skills are suggested. Must have previous
experience with oil or acrylic painting. A
materials list will be provided.

**Acrylics**
Be There or Be Square!
Tuesdays, March 20-April 10, 1-3 p.m.
Learn a variety of acrylic
painting techniques as you make four square box
paintings using different techniques for each
piece. Experiment with wash, line, color, and
palette knife and brush application. Landscapes
or abstracts, you pick the subject and size of
your canvas, ranging from 4 to 8 inches square.

**Expert Technique**
Landscape Composition
Saturday, April 14, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Strong composition provides the
crucial underlying structure of all landscape
paintings. We’ll discuss basic forms of
composition and how to use the elements of a
scene to support the central idea of your
painting. Exercises will focus on stretching our
minds to see many different possibilities in
portraying the landscape, using choice of focal
point, format, and other compositional tools.

Painting Outdoors
Session 1: Saturdays, April 21

Explore the unique light and
colors of spring as you experience the joys of
painting out of doors. You pick your medium—oil,
pastel, acrylics, or watercolor—and bring your
favorite supplies. Instructor demonstrations
combined with ample practice time will make for
an exciting, educational class. We’ll set up in
various locations around Gettysburg and break
for lunch. A materials list will be provided.

Impressionism and Color
Saturday, April 21, 1-5 p.m.
We’ll explore how the
Impressionists used color—the colors they used,
how they approached painting, and the revolution
they sparked through their ground-breaking
approach. We’ll also discuss how Impressionism
varied across countries and regions.

Now I Want to Know More: Beginning Drawing Part 2

Students who understand the
fundamentals of perspective and proportion will
have the opportunity to develop their skills by
exploring value, texture, and color in more
advanced projects. A materials list will be

**Draw from Life**
Drawing and Painting the Figure
Saturdays, March 24 and 31, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
There’s nothing like working from
a live model to help you improve your skills in
drawing and painting everything from people to
landscapes! If you’ve never drawn and painted
from life, this workshop is a great opportunity
to give it a try. You’ll progress through
drawing to painting a model in various poses.
There will be some demonstration and group and
individual activity. Work in the medium of your
choice. A model fee will apply.

Thursdays, April 5,
12, 19, and May 3, 6-8 p.m.
Learn the fundamentals
of composition, color theory, and pastel
technique through demos, practice, and
step-by-step project help—so that by the end of
class you’ll have the confidence to work on your
own. While the class is oriented toward
beginners, those already familiar with pastels
can take the opportunity to receive more
practice as well as friendly critique of their
work. A materials list will be provided at the
first class, and you’re welcome to bring along
any pastels and paper you have at home.

**Printmaking**
Oil of Wintergreen Transfer Print
Workshop
Thursday, May 16, 1-3:30 p.m.
Explore using your home photos
for printmaking! In this workshop you’ll learn
how to transfer a photo image onto printmaking
paper. You can then enhance your dry transfer
with colored pencils and/or watercolors. Use a
special photo to make a great Mother’s Day gift!
