Fall 2012 Course Offerings for Adults
Open Studio Colored Pencil
Thursdays, October 4-25, 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
If you’ve
learned the basics of working in colored pencil
and/or watercolor pencil, take your drawing
skills to the next level in this class. Bring
your in-progress work—or your ideas and
reference photos for a new composition—and
you’ll learn how to put your skills together to
make a painting that’s uniquely yours. A
materials list will be provided.

Landscapes in Oil or Acrylic
Wednesdays, October 3-November 7, 1-4 p.m.
Paint
landscapes from photos as you learn how to
create a natural-looking outdoor scene. Some
painting experience necessary. A materials list

Pastel Portraits
Thursdays, October 4-25, 6-8 p.m.
Learn to draw a
properly proportioned face with wonderful skin
tones! You’ll work from your own photos to

Nicaraguan Primativista Painting
Saturday, October 6, 1-4 p.m.
Explore
Nicaraguan culture through the country’s
traditional “primativista” painting style. Known
for bright colors heightened almost to the point
of surreality, primativista paintings typically
depict landscapes, with villages, people, and
animals in the foreground. Painters of all
levels are welcome. A materials list will be
provided.

Fall Harvest Cooking
Wednesday, October 10, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Create—and
eat!—delicious seasonal dishes based on
Pennsylvania’s bountiful fall harvest, like
roasted butternut squash soup, roasted pear
salad, wild mushroom tortelloni, and more. Feel
free to bring along a bottle of wine to enjoy as
we sample our creations!

Thai Cooking
Monday, October 15, 5-8 p.m.
Thai cuisine is
diverse and intensely flavorful. In this seminar
you’ll learn typical Thai cooking ingredients
and techniques as you prepare and enjoy an
authentic Thai meal. On the menu: Thai red curry
chicken with fresh Thai basil, jasmine rice, and
mango or coconut ice cream with mint!

Tuesday, October 23, 6-8 p.m.
Celebrate
fall’s cooler temperatures with warm, flavorful
soups that take advantage of our bountiful
autumn harvests. You’ll learn to prepare several
soups, enjoy samples, and go home with recipes
for making your own at home!

Monday, October 29, 6-8 p.m.
Learn to make a
versatile all-butter tart dough that you can use
for both savory and sweet tarts. You’ll practice
easy hand-mixing and shaping techniques and

Open Studio for Wheel Throwers
Thursdays, September 20-October 25, 6-8 p.m.
Throw at your
leisure and at your own level. Our instructor
will be on hand to answer questions, but no
formal instruction will be provided, so you’ll
be free to do your work! Clay, glaze, and firing
provided. Please note: This class is limited to
five students so each has access to a potter’s

Everything in knitting is a variation on one of
four stitches. You’ll master two of them in this

Your Space: Concept, Color and Coordinate
Interior Design

Learn the
basics of interior design as you plan the
redecoration of a space in your home. Through
class presentations, actual samples, and
in-class guidance, you’ll plan a new look for
your space. Class time will include developing a
floor plan and selecting finishes and fabrics.

group will meet the last Thursday of the month.
