Get Up and Dance!

Our dance classes for adults and kids provide the perfect environment for exploring movement as you tone and exercise your body—and have a blast! All of our dance classes are held in our private dance studio.

 
**Two Sessions Available**
Pre-Dance for Threes and Fours

4-week session: Saturdays, March 3-31, 10-10:30 a.m. $27 (nonmembers $30)

Pre-Dance - 4 Week Session

12-week session: Wednesdays, March 7-May 23, 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m. $64 (nonmembers $71)

Pre-Dance - 12 Week Session
This class for kids ages 3 and 4 offers an introduction to basic ballet and jazz dance in a safe, age-appropriate environment. Students will explore basic dance movement while increasing locomotion, coordination, and creative expression—all while having fun! We’re offering a 4-week Saturday session and a 12-week Wednesday session of this class.

Adult Noontime Dance Blast
Wednesdays, March 7-May 23, 12-1 p.m.

Noontime Blast
Pump up your mid-week with an hour of dance designed to stretch, tone, and get your heart going! Class warm-ups, exercises, dance combinations, and cool-downs will be influenced by classic and modern jazz, with some beginner-friendly hip-hop thrown in!

Dance Your Way to a New You
Wednesdays, March 7-May 23, 6-7:15 p.m.

New You
This class is designed for women who want to explore various disciplines of dance—everything from ballet and jazz to hip-hop, modern, and creative movement. We’ll include elements of yoga, toning, and Pilates to help you build strength, endurance, and flexibility as you discover your inner dancer. Short discussions on dance history, nutrition, and meditation will connect body and mind.

Music, Movement, and Imagination (for ages 4-7)

This class offers a mixed bag of fun for the littlest kids—everything from poetry to puppets, rhythm instruments to rock-and-roll. We’ll explore a different theme each week. Two sessions available.

Introduction to the American Standard Waltz
Wednesday, March 21, 7:15-8:15 p.m.

Waltz
The American Standard Waltz is a modern evolution of this historic dance form, which was ground-breaking in its day as the first dance style in which dancers faced each other as couples. In this seminar, Gettysburg Dance Center founder Holly Fox will teach couples the basics of this classic—and fun!—ballroom dance style. All couples welcome—bring your partner or your best friend!

Introduction to Latin Ballroom Dance

Latin Ballroom
Gettysburg Dance Center founder Holly Fox will teach couples three of the most popular Latin dance styles: the Rhumba, Merengue, and Tango. Each step originated in a different area of Latin America, and each is danced to a slightly different—but always catchy—Latin rhythm. Now is your opportunity to explore the sensual and fun world of Latin dance! Bring your sweetheart or your best friend!

Introduction to Swing Dance

Swing
Swing dance developed alongside jazz music, beginning in the 1920s and reaching its peak in the 1950s. There are dozens of Swing Dance forms, each of which takes full advantage of the syncopated beat typical of American jazz and the blues. Gettysburg Dance Center founder Holly Fox will teach couples a selection of these Swing Dance forms, providing plenty of opportunity for practice and fun! **New Class**
Music Appreciation: Behind the Scenes at the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra
May 5, 12, & 13

We’re offering an exciting new music appreciation class this spring that provides a behind-the-scenes look at the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra as it prepares for its spring concert. GCO conductor Norman Nunamaker leads this three-day class.

Music Appreciation

Day 1: Music Appreciation 101
Saturday, May 5, 3-5 p.m.

Learn the basics of music appreciation as you explore the history and structure of the musical works featured on the program for the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra’s spring concert. GCO conductor Norman Nunamaker will lead you through an exploration of key parts of each composition, providing an insider’s perspective on what each work offers in performance as well as insight into what a conductor is thinking and working on at the podium.

Day 2: An Orchestral Dress Rehearsal
Saturday, May 12, 1:30-3 p.m.

Sit in on the GCO’s final rehearsal for its spring concert. You’ll experience what goes into the final preparations for an orchestral performance, as well as develop a deeper understanding of each program piece. This class session meets at the Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary’s chapel on Seminary Ridge in Gettysburg.

Day 3: Orchestral Concert
Sunday, May 13, 4 p.m.

The culmination of our music appreciation series is attendance at the GCO’s spring concert! Experience in performance the works you’ve studied in previous classes. Class meets again at the Seminary chapel.

Learn to Play Piano!

We’re offering group piano lessons for all ages this spring. But sign up early—we cap our classes at six so each student will have plenty of personal attention and access to a full-keyboard Yamaha Concert Series digital piano for each lesson.

Piano 2 - Adult
For adults with some experience at the keyboard who want to continue developing their skills and confidence. A perfect follow-up to Sharon Cooley’s Introduction to Piano class.

Beginning Piano for Kids (ages 6-11)
Tuesdays, March 13-May 1, 5-6 p.m. for kids ages 6-8; 6-7 p.m. for kids ages 9-11

Piano Beginner - Kids
Learn the basics of piano in just a few weeks. This class will focus on developing the ability to play familiar songs with an emphasis on encouraging kids to pick out simple melodies “by ear.” Students will learn basic notation and chords that will enable them to play dozens of well-known musical works. Students should be prepared to devote a few minutes every day to practicing at home.

We’re reprising our beginning piano classes on Tuesday evenings—this time for adults! You’ll master the fundamentals of piano as you learn basic notation and chords and play familiar songs. Be prepared to devote a few minutes every day to practicing at home.
