Sherry Milstein - Just wanted to let you know that the Michael H. Sheeon you have listed was my great-great grandfather and his name was spelled Sheeon. His middle name was Henry and he died in Llano Tx in 1925 at the age of 82. His granddaughter, Kathleen Sheeon Wells (my grandmother) is 92 years old and wanted me to make sure you knew that you had his name spelled correctly! If you would like, I have a very nice obituary (kind of long) from the Llano paper on him that I can provide. Thanks

Michael Sheeon actually went by his middle name, Henry and he was from Ireland. He and his mother came to the United States in 1845 when he was 3 years old. We assume they came as part of the wave of Irish due to the potato famine. My grandmother and she said that Henry and his mother settled in Washington DC where he attended a Catholic school. At the start of the Civil War, he traveled to Charleston SC to join the Confederacy. After the war, he was a scout in the Western Territories eventually settling in Texas. They settled in South Carolina and after the war was, Henry moved to Llano, Texas. In 1867, he married Susan Leverett and they had 8 children, including my great-grandfather, John Wesley Sheeon. Henry died in Llano in 1925.

N. Culp Reece - Hi, My Great Grandfather was Uriah Jordan Culp, listed in the roster for Co. A. , Lucas Battalion.  I have his application for Civil War pension, but no information about the military history of his unit.

C. Amspacher - I found your site and wanted to let you know my great-grandfather was Hugh Ballard and was part of this company. He lived his life in SC. I know he lived with my grandfather Broadus Ballard in Greenville, SC and later in Honea Path, SC. In handed down stories about Hugh, it was told that he was a sharpshooter and would climb trees and shot the enemy. I have his records about the civil war. I was happy to see you are keep the history alive. I grew up in Glen Rock, PA and know well the Emmitsburg area. My Dad came to PA during the 30's and was part of the CC Camps, met my Mother and married and stayed in PA. We would go to SC each summer to visit family. If you have a news letter I would love to be part of that. My husband and I now live in Fuquay-Varina, NC which is outside Raleigh, NC. Thanks again for the great site.
